Clive Boulton
With over 20 years of coaching experience, Clive works with runners and endurance athletes across a broad range of abilities – from those preparing for their first events to marathon and IRONMAN finishers, as well as athletes competing at national and international levels. His coaching is grounded in a deep understanding of training methodology, progression, and adaptation, allowing programmes to be shaped around both performance goals and real-world constraints.
Clive is a TrainingPeaks Level 2 Certified Coach, a UKA Certified Coach, and an IRONMAN U Founder Member Coach. His coaching history spans guiding beginners from initial participation through to endurance event completion, alongside supporting experienced athletes to podium finishes across track, road, and cross-country disciplines.
Athletically, Clive brings lived experience across both speed and endurance. Earlier in his career, he competed as an elite middle-distance runner, with personal bests of 3:46 for 1500m and 14:10 for 5km. His achievements include a national 1500m title, a UK Universities medal, and multiple county cross-country victories. More recently, he has competed in long-distance triathlon, including a 7th-place age-group finish at the European Long-Distance Triathlon Championships.
Alongside coaching, Clive has spent many years in senior, quota-carrying leadership roles within large organisations. This experience shapes how he works with athletes – balancing serious training ambitions with professional and family responsibilities, applying judgement and restraint with the same care as long-term progression.
